Java webTools in Eclipse - Getting Started

If you're interested in Getting Started using the recent IBM donations to the java webTools platform in Eclipse, click away. 3 things to note:

  • Lomboz has also been thrown into the project

  • Most of what I've read reviews of says, "use the IBM stuff"

  • The downloads on the Getting Started page can be painfully slow. Make a note of the .zip file you're after and go to a mirror under the respective project. Especially since you can find the EMF and the XSD sdks zipped together (ca. 19MB). The ibm.zip is the real killer tho' (at ~57MB) and I didn't find an alternate source

This week hasn't gotten any less busy, so I hope to have time to try things out next week. I'll let you know.

Flush with cash, Google to Pay Bloggers

OK - I didn't hop on the IPO train, being overseas and all that U.S. Persons noise.
Nonetheless, if they want to share the wealth on the already-free blog-hosting game, I say let the games commence!

The New York Times > Technology > In Competitive Move, I.B.M. Puts Code in Public Domain

According to the The New York Times (registration, first-born, etc., etc. ) : "IBM plans to announce today that it is contributing more than half a million lines of its software code, valued at $85 million, to an open source software group."

Now by my math, that values their code at $170+ per line of code! I am thus vastly underpaid, and you, dear reader, have just enjoyed $2,550 worth of blogging code.

Comment at your own expense...

Business Plan v.2004

Here's the deal:
Take 1 Linux threat (free download)
Package and position as Redmond's nightmare (bask in open source)
*Settle* for putting $20 million in pocket.
It's dessert topping, it's a funding round, it's a (partial) exit strategy.
